Let’s Meet Mikey
Mike Haugen is a Fort Lauderdale home chef who started cooking at around 5 years old, and developed his style from his love of intense flavors and variety of foods – and the influence of his parents, step-parents, and the many people who shared the communal kitchens in the hippie houses and co-ops they lived and worked in at times.
He was cooking full family meals by 8 years old, taught by stepmom Ina – favorite being egg fu yung in a real wok with lots of veggies, oyster-sauce based sauce, and brown rice. His mom Tiger (aka Sharon lol) is an excellent cook and gourmand, and taught him some of her favorite recipes such as Lemon-Tarragon Chicken and homemade Caesar salad dressing.
Over time he took what he learned, experimented, and started creating recipes of his own. He eventually became the designated chef for gatherings with family and friends.
“Let’s ask Mikey” became a common phrase when anyone was stumped in the kitchen (or for many other things, since he’s kind of a walking Wiki of multiple aspects).
Mike’s wife Gaelle and daughter Zoe are his personal professional taste testers, food photographers and social media managers.
